One message can protect billions. Will you send it?

Where the European Commission has lacked ambition to protect animals, we need our Green Members of the European Parliament to push for stronger regulations and make animal welfare a top priority.

🐥 Email your Green MEP now and urge them to sign the pledge Uncage The Law for immediate, science‑based action in favour of millions of sensitive beings still bearing immense suffering under outdated and ruthless rules.

We’ve prepared a template email but it’s always best to give it your own twist, by making it personal and telling the story of why you care about animal rights and modifying the subject title.

Pro tip:

If you don’t see the Green(s) from your country on the list, congrats! Your ✨MEP bestie✨ has already signed the pledge (and we love them for that) but you can still send emails to the co-presidents of the Group, Terry Reintke and Bas Eickhout.
Let’s get everyone on board!

We have a historic opportunity: the new European Parliament can make animal welfare one of its top priorities ‼️

Why now?

  • Corporate cruelty as a business model: Factory farms confine billions of animals in overcrowded, barren spaces so companies can maximise profits. We can’t let animals pay the price of corporate greed!

  • Public support is overwhelming: 91% of Europeans believe farmed animals (pigs, cattle, poultry etc.) deserve better living conditions. A collective of animal rights associations from all around Europe are working together to make their demands be heard.

  • A broken promise: in 2020, the European Commission vowed to fully revise EU animal welfare legislation, but only transport rules have moved forward. Breeding, slaughter and labeling proposals are still missing.

Every day we wait, millions of sensitive beings suffer. That’s not justice.

Our demands:

As the Young European Greens, we are joining 10 animal rights organisations* in asking the Green Members of the European Parliament to commit to pushing for:

  • A comprehensive and rapid revision of the animal welfare legislation 🐷

To this end, the Commission must especially publish three proposals (breeding, slaughter, and labeling regulations), as it had committed to do in 2020.

  • More ambitious proposals aligned with the most advanced scientific knowledge (EFSA opinions) to reduce animal suffering 🦆

  • Specific provisions for each species farmed in the EU 🐮

  • The inclusion in regulations of mirror measures to ban the import on the EU market of products that do not match European standards 🪿

Social justice is incomplete if it does not consider the well-being of the planet and all living beings.

🍓

At its foundation, social justice establishes systems of dignity, equity, and fairness for everyone, and that must include non-human animals.

💚

Fairness, compassion and responsibility shouldn’t end with our species.
