Call for Presidency - General Assembly 2023
The presidency is a body that presides over the General Assembly. Its members are responsible for managing the programme, conducting the voting and ensuring smooth running of the General Assembly. It is a crucial body for the General Assembly and therefore we are looking for experienced activists who are motivated to commit substantial amounts of time during the General Assembly.
The Presidency:
Is responsible for reading the Meeting Rules and the Internal Rules of Procedures and have a good understanding of the statutory processes of FYEG
Chairs the Compromise Amendment Sessions and plenary sessions of the General Assembly. They also chair the two online Compromise Amendment Sessions that will take place ahead of the General Assembly on 5th of May and on 8th of May between 19:00 - 20:30 CET.
Receives and coordinates and tracks the compromises over e-mails
Managing the Amendment Tool
Moderates the discussions, decides who speaks, who takes part in discussion and who can also be suspended from discussions.
Prepares the voting procedures for the General Assembly
Responsible for the election process and counting of votes
Counting the votes, tracking the quorum and absences.
Responsible for taking the minutes of the General Assembly, and finalising them after the General Assembly
Responsible for finalising the adopted versions of the resolutions
Maintaining close contact with the Secretary - General and the Executive Committee
The presidency:
Consists of four to six people who must not be candidates to any positions at the General Assembly.
Is selected by the Executive Committee and confirmed by the General Assembly at the beginning of its proceedings.
The membership of the presidency is based on a geographical and gender balance as well as of people with solid experience in political processes, chairing meetings and taking minutes.
Presidency can be suspended and simultaneously replaced with an absolute two-third majority by the assembly. Such a vote of no-confidence can be demanded by at least 5% of the delegates, who must present people for the new presidency.
REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have:
solid experience in political processes, chairing meetings and taking minutes
experience with FYEG or one of its member organisations
no intention to run to any position that is open during the General Assembly
enough time to dedicate to the General Assembly. As a member of the presidency you will need to attend at least 3-4 online meetings before the General Assembly in order to divide the tasks and start working on them. After 13th of April the work should be getting intense and Presidency members can expect to spend 2 hours a week.Presidency members should be able to allocate at least 5 hours a week during the two weeks of May, specifically starting from 5th of May until the start of the General Assembly. Presidency members should be ready to allocate at least 5 hours/week after the two weeks of the General Assembly to finalise the minutes.
The 2023 General Assembly is planned to take place in Barcelona. Members of the Presidency are expected to arrive one day before the General Assembly (latest by 10 May 2023 before noon) to organise the final details.
Members of the Presidency don’t pay participation fees and their travel costs are covered up to the limit stated in the financial conditions.
