Call for community officer

FYEG is opening a vacancy for a Community Officer starting from September 2024 at the latest (exact date negotiable) in its Brussels office.

What is FYEG or the Federation of Young European Greens?

FYEG is an international NGO registered and operating under Belgian law. We are a dynamic youth organisation that unites Green youth movements, young Green activists and Green political organisations from all over Europe. We organise youth projects, summer camps, international trainings, conferences, campaigns, direct actions and serve as a youth lobbying organisation and a platform for the exchange of ideas and knowledge among European Green. Role description

The Community Officer (CO) is responsible for the maintenance of the digital community of FYEG and for supporting the digital strategy of the organisation. This means managing FYEG's avenues of participation for digital volunteers and supporting the implementation of digital campaigns and actions: (1) Dynamising and moderating the digital community of the organisation hosted on Discord, (2) acting as a bridge between the digital community and the Executive Committee, and vice-versa, (3) supporting the Communications Team in the maintenance of FYEG’s CRM system, (4) participating in the conceptualization and preparation of digital and fundraising campaigns, and their promotion, with the Communications Team, (5) coordinating and keeping contact with relevant stakeholders to create coordinated actions. The Community Officer will also support the general functioning and development of FYEG’s activities with ad-hoc tasks.

This is a junior position requiring good organisation and time management skills, responsibility, ability to work independently and often under time pressure. The Community Officer works under the supervision of the Secretary-General of FYEG.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience in volunteer management;

  • Basic experience in event organising and planning;

  • Basic experience in digital campaigning and digital organising;

  • Good organisational and time management skills;

  • Ability to take initiative and problem solving attitude;

  • Good computer skills and digital literacy;

  • Proficiency in the English language, written and spoken;

  • Good people skills and the ability to work in multi-cultural teams and environments;

  • Good teamwork and personal communication skills;

  • Flexibility to travel and occasionally work during evenings or weekends.

  • Identification with the goals and values of FYEG.

Additional assets:

  • Previous involvement in a local or international youth organisation;

  • Knowledge and experience with non-formal education methodology;

  • Understanding of Green values such as ecology, feminism, anti-racism, and social justice;

  • Experience with Action Network or any similar Customer Relations Management Platforms

  • Basic experience in fundraising;

  • Knowledge of other languages;

  • Experience of working in the non-profit sector;

  • Previous participation in FYEG events and bodies.

Working conditions:

Job Title:

Line Manager:

  • Secretary-General

Contract:

  • Permanent contract, part-time (80%) with the possibility to become full time.

Working hours:

  • 28 hours/week over 4 days with flexible working hours, core working hours between 10:00 and 16:00, and the possibility of teleworking 2-3 days per week. This position could potentially become full time, meaning 35 hours/week over 5 days. 

Salary (gross):

  • 1960€/month gross salary (approximately 1885€ net, including the telework allowance, depending on your personal situation)

Benefits:

  • 8€ worth meal-vouchers for every day worked (averaging 128€/month)

  • Coverage of daily transport between home and work (amount dependent on the distance and mode of transport)

  • Telework allowance of 125€ per month

Holidays:

  • 16 days of paid legal holidays per year

  • Additional holidays between December 25th and 31st

Where:

  • The selected candidate will be required to be based in Belgium from the start of the contract in September (exact date negotiable).
