Call for Participants - Seminar: It is Not Just a Transition - CANCELLED

[[ THIS ACTIVITY HAS BEEN CANCELLED. It is partly moved online and partly postponed to a later stage. Watch the project page for more updates. ]]

The Federation of Young European Greens is announcing an open call for participants to our Seminar It’s Not Just a Transition taking place April 21-25 (arrival 20, departure 26 April) in Barcelona, Spain.

In these five full intense working days we will explore what implications the transition towards a carbon-neutral society might have on social and human rights in an urban setting, and how young people can shape this process just without leaving anyone behind.

The aims of the Seminar are to:

  1. analyze how the design of urban infrastructure, such as transportation systems and public spaces, affect access to young people’s rights by learning about different cases and struggles in various parts of Europe;
  2. explore existing formal and informal initiatives for youth participation in shaping their cities - such as citizens advisory councils as well as urban gardening, squatting, food cooperatives
  3. develop advocacy and campaigning skills to influence authorities to take concrete steps toward a just transition.

The Seminar will dive into the vision for what a just transition can look like, with the exchange of experiences and knowledge on urban settings and movements, and sharing advocacy tools through a series of workshops, exhibits, storytelling, roleplays and more. By gathering 39 young activists, civil society organizations, young greens and citizen movement members from across Europe in Barcelona, the Seminar will serve as a platform to connect, learn from each other, and step up our advocacy for a socially and inclusive society in Europe.

The programme will be based on the principles of non-formal education and intercultural learning. We strive for an active, inclusive environment for direct communication and open sharing of knowledge. The sessions will be balanced between theoretical inputs, work in small groups, workshops, discussions, training and other interactive methods of non-formal learning.

We encourage applications reflecting diversity in all forms; therefore we welcome applications from those who identify as female*, LGBTQIA+, POC, or with a disability or other health impairment.

The “Seminar: It’s Not Just a Transition” is the first activity of FYEG’s project on the Just Transition, supported by the Council of Europe, its European Youth Foundation, and the Green European Foundation

  • Participants: We are looking for 39 young people between 16-35, residing in one of the Council of Europe member states, Belarus or Kosovo*.
  • Language: The main language of this activity will be English. But not being comfortable in interacting in English should not prevent you from applying.
  • Travel, visa, accommodation and participation fee: The full cost of working materials, visa and lodging (accommodation in multi-bed rooms, vegetarian food, and refreshments) during the event will be covered by the organisers. In exchange, we ask for a participation fee of 30 EUR for participants coming from non-EU countries and 50 EUR for participants coming from EU countries, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and the UK.
