Call for Coordination Team "No Commons, No Future" (CLOSED)

Call for Coordination Team "No Commons, No Future"

Do you want to help build a bigger commoners movement? FYEG is looking for 3 coordination team members who will work on the Commons - work plan during 2018. We are searching for young activists and youth workers who are passionate about different aspects of commons.

 We are currently witnessing big transformations in the management of our common goods around Europe. These processes have very concrete consequences on the lives of young people and it is important that youth is involved in designing the ways we manage our climate, our social rights or our internet. Sustainable commons are a prerequisite for participation overall and the ways they are managed can serve as examples for many different types of participatory processes. Management of commons is very important for the resources to be sustainable and accessible for everyone in the community.

Commons are goods that are neither privately nor state owned. They are managed by a  community and often play a vital role in the life of a community. Natural commons can be a community's drinking water or a livable climate. Social commons can be a society's health care system or social security system. Digital commons can be the internet or an educational system. For example, non-formal education is a typical example of commons.

 We plan:

  • to organize three events on topics of commons: social, natural and digital;
  • to develop an in-depth understanding of commons and of how they correlate with young people's access to rights;
  • to increase the capacities of young people around Europe to advocate for commons;
  • to train young people in campaigning for commons, among large segments of society through effective online campaigns as well as through targeted advocacy in institutions on local and regional level;
  • to create a dictionary of commons.
