Call for Communications Officer

FYEG is opening a vacancy for a Communications Officer starting from the beginning of March 2021 (exact date negotiable) in its Brussels office.

What is FYEG or the Federation of Young European Greens?

FYEG is an international NGO registered and operating under Belgian law. We are a dynamic youth organisation that unites Green youth movements, young Green activists and Green political organisations from all over Europe. We organise youth projects, summer camps, international trainings, conferences, campaigns, direct actions and serve as a youth lobbying organisation and a platform for the exchange of ideas and knowledge among European Green Youth and activists. Role description

The Communications Officer is responsible for planning and implementing FYEG's external communications and campaigns, in coordination with FYEG’s Executive Committee and Secretariat. This means taking ownership of FYEG’s communications and campaigns throughout each stage of their development: 1. Inventing and creating communication and campaign concepts and strategies; 2. Developing comprehensive plans and timelines; 3. Coordinating with our Executive Committee, Secretariat and partners; 4. Creating graphic and media content; 5. Coordinating the implementation of all of FYEG’s communications and campaigns; 6. Evaluating and analysing FYEG’s external communications and campaigns reach and performance. This is a demanding role requiring excellent organisation skills, responsibility, creativity, ability to coordinate different requests and strategies from various stakeholders, ability to work independently and often under time pressure. It is also an exciting opportunity to collaborate with green partners, activists, and movements to build the green wave in Europe. The Communications Officer reports to the Secretary General and the Executive Committee of FYEG.


  • Manage and ensure the smooth running of FYEG’s internal and external communication
  • Manage the promotion and appropriate live broadcasting of FYEG’s events
  • Manage and develop FYEG’s visual identity Manage and coordinate the development of FYEG’s communications and campaigns tools and materials, including following up on and identifying trends, emerging tools, target groups, topics and other opportunities for communications and campaigns
  • Manage and develop FYEG's online presence, through day-to-day management of FYEG's websites, social media accounts and instant messaging platforms (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Telegram, Slack, Youtube, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Manage and maintain FYEG’s graphic and multimedia archives
  • Manage and analyse data from FYEG’s websites, social media and mailing lists
  • Manage and coordinate FYEG’s campaigns and campaign volunteers
  • Create and edit graphic and multimedia content, including delegation to subcontractors
  • Create and disseminate FYEG’s press releases and monthly newsletter
  • Follow political developments and news around Europe, in particular in the European institutions, and develop communications and campaign ideas accordingly, in line with FYEG’s agenda and strategies and in coordination with its partners
  • Support FYEG’s Executive Committee in the development and implementation of communications and campaigns plans and strategies Support FYEG’s Working Groups and the Editorial Board of the Ecosprinter (an independent participative newspaper supported by FYEG) with various tasks related communications and campaigning
  • Support FYEG’s Executive Committee and Secretariat with ad-hoc tasks, especially during online or live events


  • Experience in social media management;
  • Multimedia production skills (photo, graphics, video and audio);
  • Campaigning experience (election or other);
  • Good understanding of European politics, plus
  • Green politics, movements and activism;
  • Good understanding of Green values such as ecology, feminism, anti-racism and social justice, and on how to communicate around these values;
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills;
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to work in multi-cultural teams and environments;
  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative;
  • Good teamwork and personal communication skills;
  • Good computer skills and digital literacy;
  • Proficiency in English language and strong writing and editing skills;
  • Flexibility to travel and occasionally work during evenings or weekends.

Additional assets

  • Knowledge of other languages;
  • Previous involvement in a local or international youth organisation;
  • Experience of working in the non-governmental sector;
  • Networking skills;

What do we offer?

  • One-year full-time employee contract (38 hours/week), renewable
  • 1900 EUR gross/month salary + 20 days of paid holidays/year
  • Additional benefits (transport, meal-vouchers, etc.) worth around 235 EUR/month
  • Flexible working hours, with possibility for regular telework

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Belgium has put regulations in place regarding teleworking. It is therefore highly possible that, depending on how the situation evolves, part of the contract will have to be performed remotely through teleworking, at least part-time. The selected candidate will nonetheless be required to be based in Belgium from the start of the contract (exact date negotiable).

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted by January 20th and an interview and practical assignment for the position will take place online or in Brussels between 20 and 27 January. The selected candidate will be notified at the beginning of February.
