Turkish Greens and Left for The Future Party, European Greens, Young Greens of Turkey and the Federation of Young European Greens demand the end of violence in Turkey.
After the heavy use of violence against peaceful protestors the Turkish Greens, the European Green Party (EGP), the Young Greens of Turkey and the Federation of Young European Greens (FYEG) demand an immediate cease of police brutality in Turkey.
Sevil Turan, Co-Spokesperson of the Turkish Greens and Left For the Future Party reports from the protests: “Riot police brutally evicted protesters from Taksim Square with tear gas and water cannons. Excessive and indiscriminate violence was used against peaceful protesters of all ages. The streets of Istanbul have become dangerous. Thousands of people have been injured and several have died. We call upon Erdogan to immediately stop the violence.”

The European Youth Guarantee should not become a Placebo for Europe's Youth |

Joint PR of the Raül Romeva (Greens/EFA's MEP) and the Federation of Young European Greens:
The European Parliament adopted today a resolution on actions to tackle out youth unemployment in Europe. Despite the incorporation of fundamental and Green measures, the text has left out two important amendments tabled by Greens / EFA. The resolution fails to call for a one year relief plan for youth and it fails to exclude investment in young people from the public deficit targets.
The Vice President of Greens / EFA and ICV MEP, Raul Romeva Rueda, comments on the resolution: "The fight against youth unemployment can not be separated from the fight against austerity. It makes no sense to continue to implement destructive policies of jobs while there is an allocation of public funds to partially mitigate its consequences. The European Youth Guarantee can not become a placebo for Europe youth."
Michael Bloss, Co-Spokesperson of the Federation of Young European Greens criticises: "The Council and the Commission promise a better future for young people without acting on the real causes of the crisis. We have to think outside the box of neoliberal policies and launch a transectorial policy for the youth included in a common economic policy at the European level. 57% of youth unemployment in Spain is unacceptable."
Ingrid Nyman, Co-Spokesperson of the Federation of Young European Greens stresses "The situation, throughout Southern Europe is dramatic. We welcome the European Youth Guarantee but it is not enough. We must go to the basic structures and see why young people are especially affected by the crisis. As the number of young people outside of education, training and employment continue to rise we are facing the risk of a lost generation"

Your honorable Ambassador Mehmet Hakan Olcay
Your honorable Counsillor General, Ali Baris Ulosoy
On behalf of the Federation of Young European Greens we are utterly shocked by the tremendously harsh and brutal methods applied by the Turkish Police Forces against their own people during protests againts cutting the trees in Gezi Park, Istanbul.
During the three days of the protests police used extreme forces; targeting the protesters to be injured. On May 30th, police burned the personal belongings of the protesters: tents, books, musical instruments. The police has been continously attacking the protesters since 05:00 am, more than 25 people are heavily injured; more than 100 are in the hospitals. Two members of the Turkish Parliament (Sırrı Süreyya Önder -BDP-, Sezgin Tanrıkulu) are heavily injured, one of them is still at the hospital. We are strongly condemning the unprecedented violence and brutality used by Turkish Police forces and call upon you to intervene and appeal the Turkish Government to guarantee the protesters their right of assembly, expression and movement, as well as their right to preserve their integrity, granted by the Turkish constitution.
Article 56 of the Constitution of Turkish Republic says: 'Everyone has the right to live in a healthy, balanced environment. It is the duty of the state and citizens to improve the natural environment, and to prevent environmental pollution'. We are putting our hopes to you that you will rely this message to the Turkish Government, as you might be aware there have already been hundreds of injured people and severe loss of human life which we regret so much. Allow us to express on behalf of FYEG our respect, and deep thoughts to the victims of this ordeal.
Please allow us to express our best wishes and mutual respect. Yours sincerly,
The Federation of European Greens |

Press statement from Young Greens of Turkey
There are a few hot issues happening in Istanbul now where we try our best to prevent. We wanted to inform you briefly.
- The old park (Gezi) next to Taksim square in Istanbul which is one of the only remaining green spots downtown and under the risk of a mall construction recently, illegally attacked by construction workers and machines on 27th May midnight even though an injunction secured against that part of the project. We again faced with police’s disproportionate force to the ones who wanted prevent construction. Since then people occupied, resisting and on watch 7/24 to protect the trees and the park.
